Consumers’ Gas Showroom
Completed in 1931, this exquisite, two-storey Art-Deco commercial building has graced the corner of Yonge St. and St. Clemens Ave., accommodating many occupants over its 85 year history. The restoration of the numerous character-defining attributes, such as the decorative Art Deco aluminum spandrel panel, the Telechron Clock, Tyndall stone exterior, and the terrazzo and marble elements maintain the building’s iconic architectural character.
The full envelope restoration included repointing and cleaning of limestone and brick surfaces and upgrading the original steel windows with thermal glazing units. The project rescued the building from a place on Toronto’s list of endangered heritage properties to its rightful place as a significant resource.
