Biography Philip specializes in the traditional roofing and sheet metal restoration of heritage buildings with special emphasis on natural quarried slate, clay and concrete roof tiles, cedar shingles and shakes, copper, lead, zinc and galvanized steel including decorative metal and building cladding elements. Philip has provided both consulting and construction services on many significant National Historic Sites in Canada over a career spanning more than 35 years, including; Laurier House, Ottawa; Fortress Louisbourg, Nova Scotia; Parkwood, Oshawa; Dundurn Castle and The Military Museum, Hamilton; Old Fort York, Toronto, Wolseley Barracks C.F.B. London; Castle Kilbride, Baden, St. Anne's Anglican Church, Toronto and most recently Province House in Charlottetown, PEI. He is a faculty associate at Willowbank School of Restorations Arts in Queenston, where he teaches Historic Roofing and Heritage Project Management, whilst providing mentorship to a number of students. Philip Hoad is also a Canadian Representative for DARWEN TERRA COTTA AND FAIENCE, an English manufacturer and purveyor of Architectural Terra Cotta, and provides additional services and masonry expertise to early 20th century buildings. Philip is also Heritage Projects Director at Robertson Restoration of Brantford, a contractor specializing in the restoration of historic buildings and structures across Eastern Canada.
