Biography Mathieu Dormaels est professeur associé au département d’études urbaines et touristique à l’Université du Québec à Montréal. Titulaire d'un Ph.D. en muséologie, médiation patrimoine (UQAM - Québec) et d'un Doctorat en communication (UAPV - France), il est spécialiste en culture et patrimoine. il intervient comme expert en patrimoine mondial, notamment sur les questions de gestion des sites inscrits, sur la participation des communautés locales et la mise en tourisme du patrimoine. Il a travaillé comme consultant, notamment avec le ministère de la culture et des communications du Québec, le ministère de la Culture du Costa Rica ou encore l’UNESCO. Président sortant d'ICOMOS Canada, il travaille actuellement à la Ville de Laval et est membre du conseil du patrimoine de Montréal. Mathieu Dormaels is a consultant, professor and researcher in the field of cultural heritage. An associate professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, he holds PhDs and his work focusses on World Heritage, notably on the areas of heritage management, the role of institutions and local community involvement, as well as cultural landscapes and cultural and heritage tourism. Mathieu’s international experience includes consulting, lecturing and teaching in Québec, France, and Latin America. Former president of ICOMOS Canada, he holds a position as heritage planning advisor for the City of Laval and is a member of the conseil du patrimoine de Montréal.
