Biography

A historian based in the Niagara region, Sarah King Head has considerable experience with municipal, local and regional heritage and historical committees, Indigenous education initiatives, and heritage property restoration and commemoration. With two graduate degrees from Toronto in History and Art History, her work since 2005 has focused principally on settler heritage property and cultural heritage landscape identification, research, evaluation and documentation. Research into the Beaverdams-DeCew heritage corridor led to publication of Where the Beavers Built Their Dams as a Canada 150 project. Now in its fourth printing, the book earned of the M&N Hill Cultural Heritage Landscape award from the ACO in 2017. Volunteer committee work is extensive and includes War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration activities, membership of the Friends of Beaverdams Church since 2011, organizing committee for OHC Niagara in 2015, and Niagara Investment in Culture adjudicator in 2017. Since 2018, she has served as an executive member of the Port Dalhousie Conservancy and participated in Landscape of Nations 360° Indigenous Education Initiative. Most recently, she joined the boards of OAHP and CAHP. Sarah was named Honorary Historian by the City of Thorold in 2015 for her work with Heritage Thorold LACAC. She was accepted as a full Professional member of CAHP in 2019 and earned a Graduate Diploma in Planning from the University of Waterloo in October 2020.
