Continuing Professional Development Program

CAHP|ACECP encourages members to maintain and enhance their professional competency, remain current with heritage conservation theory and methods of practice, and foster cross-disciplinary understanding on an on-going basis.

The CPD program is currently voluntary and applies only to Professional members, although Interns are welcome to participate. The program’s key objectives are to:

  • Promote awareness among the membership of diverse learning opportunities and activities;
  • Build upon CAHP | ACECP’s strengths as a multi-disciplinary association by promoting cross-disciplinary knowledge, skills and discourse amongst members; and
  • Sponsor the development of learning activities concerning heritage conservation principles, practices and theories relevant to all heritage practitioners, as resources allow.

The CPD Guide provides members with details about the program. Until such time as an online CPD recording system is established, members can record their CPD activities on the CPD Recording Form. CPD Reporting Forms are to be submitted annually at the time of membership renewal, beginning in 2018.

The two broad categories of CPD activities include Calendared Events and Self-Directed Learning. Members are encouraged to accumulate a total of 25 hours of CPD annually, with a recommended minimum of 10 hours in each learning category.

For members who attended the 2017 CAHP-ACECP National Trust Conference, here is the Continuous Professional Learning Units Form.

Heritage-related activities claimed for credits under another professional continuing education program may also be reported in the CAHP | ACECP CPD program.

Feedback from the membership will be key to developing an effective and appropriate CPD program for all. The more upcoming events you share with us for posting on the CAHP | ACECP calendar, the better the program will be.

CAHP | ACECP Continues

The early years of CAHP | ACECP’s success can be partially attributed to the presidents who demonstrated exceptional leadership skills by combining vital components for running an association. It was also the first members who took the time to add qualitative information and knowledge to these components. Ultimately however, it is the practice of heritage and the need to unify the principles of this profession that continue to make CAHP | ACECP the thriving Association it is today.
