About Us

Our membership and activities are supported by a framework of committees, regional chapters, and a Board of Directors.  The objectives of CAHP – ACECP are to provide stewardship for cultural heritage resources, promote the highest standards of heritage conservation principled and practice, and to foster and promote public and legislative support for the conservation of heritage resources.

CAHP – ACECP has defined a heritage professional as the following:

A Heritage Professional is a person who has specialized knowledge, supported by formal training and/or work experience, in the conservation and stewardship of cultural heritage. The Professional conforms to accepted technical and ethical standards and works in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the person’s specialty heritage field and the jurisdictions of practice.

The organization maintains the following objectives:

  • To represent members who are professionally and actively engaged in the identification, conservation, preservation, interpretation and sustainable use of cultural and natural heritage;
  • To establish and maintain principles and standards of practice for heritage consultants;
  • To enhance the qualifications of Members;
  • To promote services of Members;
  • To foster sharing and knowledge between Members; and
  • To promote the value of heritage preservation and conservation
Each year CAHP - ACECP honours excellence in its members’ work through an awards program. The awards are for the Conservation of Heritage Value through Preservation, Rehabilitation or Restoration, Planning and Communication.

CAHP - ACECP Chapters
Chapters advance the recognition and practice of heritage professionals at the regional level where the national organization does not have jurisdiction. Chapters extend the effectiveness of CAHP - ACECP as a national organization.
