The Papineau Memorial Chapel is located on the National Historic Site of the Manoir-Papineau in Montebello, Quebec, and was itself classified as a historic monument by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCCQ) in 1975. The small rectangular building (c.1854) described originally as “rustic Gothic” was rebuilt in 1933 in the Gothic Revival style. The project began with research into the history of the Chapel and the development of a Conservation Plan outlining a primary Preservation treatment as described in the Standards and Guidelines. Based on the Conservation Plan, a scope of work was developed, and contract documents prepared for the current project: the conservation of the exterior envelope (masonry, roof, doors, and windows). Construction began in July 2020 and ended in May 2021. All interventions were submitted to the MCCQ and the National Trust for Canada for review and approval.
