Reopened in December 2019, Paradise Theatre is an exciting project that showcases the potential of Toronto’s historical theatres to once again become neighbourhood hubs. With a primary conservation approach of rehabilitation, the project team has been hard at work since 2014. Together, the team was committed to the building’s careful conservation of the exterior façade, as well as the retention and rehabilitation of the east wing. The project successfully balances the celebration of the building’s Art Deco character with modern theatre & performance space requirements. The resulting building has a street presence that speaks to its original 1920s detailing with an updated interior that offers inclusive and accessible programming for all ages, identities and abilities. The Paradise Theatre is once again a space for the community to gather and celebrate.
