Consultations postponed on Ontario’s Heritage Act regulations

April 23, 2020

CAHP and the Ontario Association of Heritage Professionals (OAHP) have been informed by Ontario’s Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries that consultations on the Ontario Heritage Act regulations under the More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019, have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ministry staff notified CAHP and OAHP that they are continuing to work on drafting the regulations and updates to the Ontario Heritage Tool Kit and that these drafts will be posted for comment as soon as it is appropriate.

CAHP and OAHP will share information about the online feedback process with its members as soon as we hear about the release of the draft regulations and updated Ontario Heritage Tool Kit.

The Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries has delayed the Act’s expected proclamation date from the originally proposed July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

In the meantime, the existing Ontario Heritage Act and associated guides continue to apply.

If you have questions about the consultations you can contact OAHP Secretary Ellen Kowalchuk at ellen@cbcollective.ca or ministry staff at heritage@ontario.ca and the appropriate staff person will respond.
