Harold Kalman
Harold Kalman is being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many and lasting contributions to heritage conservation over his forty years as a practitioner, teacher, writer and builder of the discipline. Hal set up practice as Canada’s first heritage consultant in 1975 and since that time he has led or participated in more than one thousand conservation projects in Canada, China, the U.S, and elsewhere. He has taught courses in the fundamentals of heritage conservation planning on two continents and many of his books and articles on heritage conservation and architectural history have become standards in their fields. Hal has been dedicated to helping heritage conservation become recognized and professionalized as a discipline and was the founding president of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals in 1987. His numerous awards include the Gabrielle Leger Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Heritage, the Order of Canada and the Vancouver Lifetime Achievement Award.
